I've been meaning to write this thread for over a year now and have just now found the time. Sorry for the very long delay.
In order to become Seneschal you must gain 9100 favor. You don't' need to go all the way to 10,000. It will add about a week to the process. In fact if you check your favor in the lists (Rank List) and notice that you have 9050 or more you can do the jump next reset. Game your character until you have about 50 quests left and then rank them up. If you are a knight it will take 36 quests to get yourself to Sen. You'll have a few clicks left at the end to mingle or game.
Mingling or gaming are similar when your your favor is low. You gain with both but at the lower values the loss you experience when logging in is easily gained back by either gaming or mingling. In addition if you mingle you have no risk of injury as you do with gaming.
When you are higher rank or higher favor it is better to game. You gain more points by gaming and therefore the loss is more easily recovered.
It is difficult to game if your character has less than 150 guts ( I prefer 170) because of the increased chance of sustaining injuries. Each time you get injured while gaming it lessens your gain for the day. The higher the guts = the higher the chance that you won't get injured. Once you are over 200 it gets much easier as injuries won't be as common nor will they have as much effect on the days gains.
If you keep your character at the lowest rank possible before requesting rank promotions then you will receive a nice increase in fame for your efforts when you do "rank up". However, each time you log in and game or mingle your character you experience a small loss in fame. Whether you rank up as you gain enough for each level or wait until the end to rank up 12 levels in one day you will experience some increase in fame each time you gain a rank. What happens when you wait to do it in one day is you get all that fame back in one lump instead of portioned out each time your gain a single rank.
You can't move from the lowest rank to the highest in just one petition but you can make a number of petitions in one day. If you already are a Squire it will take 12 petitions and 36 quests to get to Seneschal.
Below you'll find a chart with the amount of favor you req to move to each rank.
Hope this all helps.
