Torra asked this question in the Tavern and I thought it would aslo go nicely here also. Does more Trader Skills mean that you are more successful in running away from creatures? Or is it based only on your skill?
I Know that if you have at least 3 trader skills you suddenly have a chance of gaining your quest back if you successfully run away. Sirinnu, one of the wise men of the game, provided this response: Whether ; you are trying to runaway, the monster is trying to run away, or BOTH of ya are trying to; here's the notions and how the game computes the results:
MRW = monster's run wits HRW = hero's run wits MTL = monster's thief level (I think this is always 0) HTL = hero's thief level (number of trader guilds)
HRW = Hero Wits * (10 + HTL)/10 If the hero has the clan ability swift then add 30 to HRW. If the monster has the ability bandit then divide HRW by 2
MRW = Monster Wits * (10 + MTL)/10 If the monster has the (clan) ability swift then add 30 to MRW (I don't think this can happen)
Take a random number between 0 and (MRW+HRW-1). If it is less than HRW, the hero gets away. Otherwise combat occurs.
When fleeing from hostile or agressive foes, as u said 2 or 3 trader skills (respectivly) are needed to save your quest... (another formula occurs involving charm : Take a random number between 0 and (hero charm + monster charm - 1). If this is less than hero charm, you keep your quest and see the message about merchant training. Otherwise you lose your quest. Thanks Sir

Yes, Dude. You need to have at least 3 trader skills for any chance of getting your quest back from running away. After that I believe the more trader skills you have the better chance you have of gaining your quest back, but I don't know by what percentage.... The higher your charm the higher your skill; The higher your skill the more likely you are to outrun your opponent thereby giving you the 'chance' to get your quest back.

Dear Dude.....HELP SOMETHING!!! For pities sake, hon, I got food with more wits than that. BTW love your sig. You in the Army? And, Rion....I hate to ask...but, WHY do you have naked guys running around the forest?!??! You're always finding great gear? If you need some lower level gear, send me a note... After seeing Orrv in that Dress last year...I really don't want to run into any more surprises.

I'm in the Air force working as a Readiness/Emergency Management technician(i teach people how to put on their gas mask).
and as for the wit problem *takes a deep breath in preparation for a thorough but speedy explanation*
originally i thought "my name is dudemeister I just need to be able to slam jaeger(spell check) bombs and smash things" but have recently come to terms with the need for some wits and have set forth to remedy that.
I had a huge day questing and gained 5 or 6 wits. i get bored doing one thing the whole time and turning 180 quests into like 1000 by running from jags then feeding/running from snakes all day so here is how I'm going to get my stats up.
1st go to hie brazil mez all fighters (easy to mez with low wits plus there are no repercussions) answer hero questions, run from harps, kill golom, flirt with medusa (chance at charm plus if flirt fails i seem to get guts 1 of 5 times from the one hit kill that follows.... and she is super hot) once i run out of mez i go to shangala.
backstab ninjas, soldiers, samurai and berzerkers(love to get the +1 charm +1 guts combo) Help panda, answer spirit. Once out of backstabs go kill some warriors and run from jags.
last 50 quests go to dragon or queen
I kinda developed an in game drinking problem for a bit so i don't grab more than 2 or 3 charm from the sea side tavern anymore.

Cool plan, Dude! *giggles at "medusa...she is super hot" line*
Yeah, just powering through Azteca can definitely be boring. And you're correct, with lower wits you definitely want to mezz fighters or someone that you succeed mezzing more often. Let us know how you do with that plan!

so far i haven't gained less than 4 wits in a day using this plan and with only a teeny tiny amount of time slamming booze at the seaside tavern charm has been doing great as well. Guts (as always) continue to grow steadily.

This is a great synopsis on play by our own Dudemeister, and I wanted to bump it back to page 1 and we have several new players who could benefit from (and be entertained by) his witty rendition of a 'day in the DC life of DudeMeister'.
